European DGs Talk TV
Edinburgh TV Festival 2020 • 42m
Europe’s top public broadcasters give their
take on the challenges and opportunities
ahead. As with the BBC in the UK, other
European public broadcasters are having
to adapt to retain audiences as viewing
behaviour evolves, fend off competition as
deep-pocketed US streamers build share,
and make funding go further. However, public
service media remains part of the fabric of TV
in many countries and the bosses of several of
Europe’s largest players give their view on how
a forward-looking public broadcaster can stay
relevant and serve its viewers, young and old.
