They'll Get the Bill

A session which lifts the lid on just how, in a challenging and fragmented financing landscape, 4 hit shows came to fruition – and who the hell actually paid for them! Featuring Key Indie Executives, Distribution Chiefs, Channel Production Heads and 3rd Party financiers the session will provide insight into the range of commercial and creative relationships needed to secure the ultimate funding which brought the 4 projects – both scripted and non-scripted - to screen. By recounting their experience on each show our panellists will discuss how, with broadcaster programming budgets increasingly limited, creative commercial solutions and relationships are more important than ever before. We’ll explore how the traditional distribution model is changing and the increasing opportunities and risks this provides a post COVID industry. We’ll ask the tough questions such as how many distribution advances are actually recouped and is this bubble about to burst? How much editorial input can a channel expect when they are a minority funder? The session will also examine how the co-commission model between broadcasters from different countries worked in practice and how collaboration at an Indie and Broadcaster level is increasingly holding the key to the future of scripted programming.
